2023-2024 “Unofficial” CAASPP (ELA and Math) and CAST (Science) Student Achievement Results
Congratulations to the Students, Teachers, Staff, Parents, School Board, and Community for an excellent year in education! According to our end-of-the-year California Department of Education CAASPP and CAST achievement scores, our third through sixth-grade students did FABULOUSLY! We ended the school year with 99% Proficiency in ELA, 98% Proficiency in Math, and 97% Proficiency in Science!
We are mailing all the individual student results this week. Please look for your child’s results in the mail. I have attached a schoolwide summary PowerPoint for your review. The one way you can support your child over the summer is by supporting their love of READING! Literacy is tied to every content area! Below are some ways you can ensure your child is reading within their Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) to ensure student growth!
Cold Spring School lululemon Exclusive Event
I’m excited to share that lululemon has asked me to serve as a lululemon Running Ambassador. As part of this new partnership, they are wanting to support my interests which are clearly serving the Cold Spring School community. To kick off this new partnership, Santa Barbara lululemon is hosting an exclusive friends and family of Cold Spring School shop night. Santa Barbara lululemon is giving everyone a 25% in-store discount on ALL merchandise on Tuesday, July 9th from 5PM-7PM. In addition, there will be an in-store raffle prize drawing for all shoppers. I’m looking forward to the event and having lululemon be a part of our school community!
Professional Learning for Educators and Parents
This week, I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a 2-day Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) refresher training with several of our staff members. We were fortunate to have Dr. Rosy Bucio, the Santa Barbara County Behavior and Wellness expert, serve as our trainer. Dr. Bucio emphasized the importance of providing individualized support to both students and adults in how we respond and react to behaviors. She reminded us that with a comprehensive understanding of humanity, we could foster a more empathetic and loving world. Below, I’ve listed some of the books she recommended for every parent and educator to read, along with the podcast series “Unlocking Us” by Dr. Brené Brown.
SBCEO Battle of the Books List
Battle of the Books is a voluntary Santa Barbara County Reading program for students in 4th through 8th grade that encourages reading books from a designated Battle of the Books list. Students who read the most books from the list attached will be selected to participate in a fun Battle of the Books competition by answering questions about plot, characters, and theme on April 24, 2025.

FREE Parenting Classes/Coaching
We are pleased to offer a free and confidential website for families, ParentGuidance.org. This site was developed by licensed therapists that provides trusted and specialized courses, professional support, and a safe community for parents to learn how to support their child.
Parents can also get answers to mental health questions, especially anxiety, depression, self-worth, grief and loss, suicide ideation, self-harm, bullying, family strife and other mental health concerns. One popular course you may want to explore is “Parenting with a Purpose.” There are over 50 e-courses, free to families, which are led by licensed therapists as well as an ask-a-therapist section on the website. The courses within ParentGuidance.org will provide you with tools to form stronger bonds with your children.
In addition to the free website, our district is offering Parent Coaching to all families within the district. Parent coaching is a confidential service provided to parents and families. If you or your family is in need of extra support or you would like to fine-tune your parenting, go to ParentGuidance.org, select “Parent Coaching” and select;Register for Coaching; to get started.
A coach can meet with you as often as weekly for a 30-minute session to discuss your concerns or needs. You will also be able to message your coach if other concerns arise before your next scheduled meeting. For more information about the coaching process, click the links below:
